The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense said on Sunday that 28 opposition fighters were killed and 32 others arrested during an operation in Kamdesh district of Nuristan province.

Taliban intelligence-affiliated media outlets published videos showing a group of men being transported, with the individuals seen being paraded through a market with their hands tied. The Taliban claimed that the men were members of opposition groups, but the circumstances in which the videos were recorded and how the accompanying confessions were obtained have not been independently established.

In response, the Afghanistan Freedom Front rejected the claims as “fabricated.” The front claimed that the Taliban had forcibly used tourists and domestic travelers in Nuristan to produce the videos. The Freedom Front also said that in recent clashes with the Taliban in Kamdesh district of Nuristan and Nari district of Kunar, it had killed 37 Taliban members and wounded 24 others.

Meanwhile, the Taliban’s police command spokesperson in Nuristan claimed that 21 Afghanistan Freedom Front members were killed and 32 others arrested. The Freedom Front also claimed that it had captured several Taliban bases in the areas and brought parts of them out of the group’s control.
