Mohammad Alam Izdyar, former deputy speaker of Afghanistan’s Senate and a member of the National Resistance Front, expressed concern over the Taliban’s policies toward Afghanistan’s diverse languages and cultures during a ceremony marking Uzbek Language Day in Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday.
Emphasizing the importance of preserving the linguistic and cultural identities of the people of Afghanistan, Izdyar said that everyone has a responsibility to stand against any actions targeting the country’s diverse languages and cultures and to fulfil their duty to protect these identities.
He also stressed the need to safeguard Afghanistan’s linguistic and cultural diversity, which is an important part of the country’s historical and social identity.
His remarks come as the linguistic and cultural rights of Afghanistan’s various ethnic groups remain a matter of concern for cultural and political activists in the country.
