Mohammad Jawad Mohseni, head of the Khatam al-Nabieen Religious Seminary in Kabul, has rejected claims by Taliban-affiliated media that a “weapons and ammunition depot” was “discovered” at the center. He said the weapons at the seminary had been provided years ago, with the knowledge of security authorities, to the center’s security personnel for protection.
In a statement, Mohseni said that about 20 years ago, given the size of the Khatam al-Nabieen Religious Seminary and the large religious ceremonies held there with the participation of thousands of citizens, the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of National Security of the previous government had provided some weapons and security equipment to the personnel responsible for protecting the seminary.
According to him, after the Taliban came to power, all of these weapons were officially handed over to the weapons collection commission. However, a few days later, based on a decision and directive from the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, some of the equipment was returned to the seminary’s security officials to help provide security for the center.
These remarks came after Taliban-affiliated media reported the discovery of a “weapons and ammunition depot” during the evacuation of the Khatam al-Nabieen Religious Seminary. According to those reports, three rocket launchers, two PK machine guns, 20 Kalashnikov rifles, 22 loaded magazines and 21 empty magazines, 53 rocket rounds, approximately 2,250 PK rounds, 10 boxes of PK ammunition, and 10 communication devices were found at the site.
Mohseni said that during the forced evacuation of the seminary, all weapons and ammunition present at the center were also formally and voluntarily handed over to Taliban security forces. He emphasized that describing this equipment as “discovered weapons” and creating the impression that weapons had been secretly stored at the seminary does not correspond to reality.
Seminary officials have also said that the equipment had remained from the previous government and was registered with the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior after the Taliban takeover and had official licenses.
Mohseni called on Taliban-affiliated and official media outlets and pages to refrain from publishing incomplete and misleading narratives when reporting on such sensitive issues and to provide the public with complete, accurate, and impartial information.
