Ukrainian officials said that in the early hours of Wednesday, August 5, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Kyiv and surrounding areas using ballistic missiles and drones.
According to Ukrainian authorities, at least 17 people were killed and 44 others were injured in the strikes. Search and rescue operations are continuing at the sites of damaged buildings, and the death toll could rise.
Local officials said the attacks destroyed residential buildings, damaged urban infrastructure, and sparked fires in several parts of the capital. Emergency crews have been deployed to rescue people trapped beneath the rubble.
The assault is considered one of the deadliest air attacks on Kyiv since the beginning of 2026. Russian authorities have not yet commented on the attack.
