Kabul’s Emergency Hospital has announced that at least 35 children injured in the explosion at Shama-e Hedayat School in western Kabul were transferred to the medical facility.

According to the hospital, all of the injured are children between the ages of 10 and 14, and three of them require surgery. However, according to published reports, the total number of injured in the incident has reached nearly 50 children.

Sources say the incident occurred as students were leaving the school, and several hand grenades were thrown into the school compound. As a result of the attack, dozens of students were injured.

The father of one of the injured students expressed his sadness over his son’s injuries, saying that his son had gone to school to learn and build his future. He added that his son, Jahangir, was one of the good students at Shama-e Hedayat School and was among those injured in the incident.

The Taliban condemned the attack and attributed responsibility for it to “a party.”
