Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, said in his speech on Tuesday, September 22, at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly that Gaza has become the “largest graveyard for children in the world.”
Erdogan also said that Gaza has the highest rate of child amputations in the world and expressed concern over the situation of civilians, particularly children, in the territory.
In his speech, the Turkish president accused Israel of “state terrorism” in Gaza and called on the international community to exert greater pressure to end the war and humanitarian crisis in the region.
Erdogan also reiterated Turkey’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The United Nations has also reported in recent reports an increase in grave violations against children in Israel and the Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip. According to a UN secretary-general’s report published in June 2026, the organization documented and verified 12,445 grave violations against 5,663 children between January and December 2025.
