Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, leader of Afghanistan’s National Islamic Movement, said several years ago during a visit to Qaramqol District of Faryab Province that the Taliban had never managed to defeat him anywhere in Afghanistan.
At the time, Dostum had traveled to Faryab to assess the security situation. Referring to continued fighting in the northern provinces, he said that war and insecurity had pushed the people’s patience to the limit.
He also stressed that he would not surrender to armed groups and, with government support, was ready to take action against armed opponents of the government in different parts of the country.
Dostum also described the United States as one of the world’s most powerful countries and emphasized its role in developments in Afghanistan.
