Brussels; A Platform for Advocacy for Afghan Women and Girls
Farkhunda Muhibi, a journalist, together with a number of human rights activists, appeared at the European Parliament and criticized the international community’s positions as well as the possibility of inviting the Taliban to Brussels. They called for a firm stance against the systematic violation of women’s rights in Afghanistan.
The activists emphasized that the deprivation of women and girls from education, employment, and social participation, along with ongoing violence and widespread restrictions, must not be ignored by the international community. They warned that any engagement or political deal with the Taliban, without considering the will and rights of the Afghan people—especially women—would amount to disregarding the suffering of millions of Afghan women and girls.
In her speech, Farkhunda Muhibi said: “Today, I stand before the European Parliament to be the voice of Afghan women and girls; women who have been deprived of their rights to education, work, and a free life. I call on the international community to stand with the people of Afghanistan, not with those who violate the fundamental rights of women.”
She added: “Inviting the Taliban to Brussels without taking into account the suffering and demands of Afghan women sends a troubling message to the victims of these policies. We seek justice, freedom, and respect for human rights for all women and girls in Afghanistan, and we urge the international community not to remain silent in the face of these violations.”
