An Afghan woman, identified as 41-year-old Yasmin Atayi, was killed following a domestic violence incident in the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.
According to the Sherbrooke Police Service, officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance. Yasmin Atayi was transported to hospital with severe injuries but later died from the wounds she sustained.
Police arrested the woman’s 18-year-old son, Ramesh Atayi, in connection with the incident. He has been charged with second-degree murder, assault with a weapon, and causing bodily harm. Another person was also injured during the incident, but police said the injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police stated that the case is being investigated as an incident of domestic violence, and the investigation remains ongoing. The next court hearing in the case is expected to take place on Monday.
