As the month of Muharram began, Afghan refugees living in Attock, Pakistan, held mourning ceremonies to commemorate Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.
The ceremonies were held separately for men and women. Participants marked the occasion through Quran recitation, elegies, prayers, and religious speeches in remembrance of the events of Ashura.
Speakers reflected on the Battle of Karbala and its significance in Islamic history, emphasizing the values of justice, sacrifice, devotion, and steadfastness.
Afghan refugees organize Ashura mourning ceremonies every year in various cities across Pakistan. Organizers say the purpose of these events is to preserve the memory of Ashura and pass on its message to younger generations.
This year’s ceremony was attended by a number of Afghan refugees in Attock and concluded in a solemn religious atmosphere.
