Berlin – The German government on Tuesday, July 28 (6 Asad), deported 31 Afghan citizens to Kabul on a charter flight departing from Leipzig Airport.
According to German media reports and statements by German officials, 30 of the deported individuals had criminal convictions. The remaining individual, although not convicted of any crime, was returned to Afghanistan after his asylum application was rejected and all legal avenues to remain in Germany had been exhausted.
Germany's Federal Minister of the Interior, Alexander Dobrindt, said that deportations of Afghan nationals to Afghanistan would continue "decisively" and that individuals who pose a threat to Germany's security would have no prospect of remaining in the country.
The charter flight is part of the German government's stricter policy toward migrants whose asylum applications have been rejected or who have been deemed eligible for deportation due to criminal offenses.
