According to reports, the bans are part of Washington’s latest measures in response to Canada’s tariffs on U.S. goods and cover a wide range of Canadian products.
The move comes as Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs on billions of dollars’ worth of U.S. goods in response to U.S. trade policies, raising concerns about an escalation of the trade war between the two countries.
Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, had previously said that reducing Canada’s economic and trade dependence on the United States would not be easy and would come with significant costs. However, he emphasized that Ottawa should expand its trade relations with other countries.
The United States and Canada are among each other’s largest trading partners, and an escalation of tariffs could affect businesses, consumers, and various sectors of both countries’ economies.
The increase in reciprocal trade measures between Washington and Ottawa comes as efforts to resolve trade disputes between the two countries also continue.
