A number of residents of Wama District in Nuristan Province have staged a protest against the beating and insulting of a young man by local Taliban forces. Local sources say the young man was beaten for using headphones, and that Taliban forces also responded violently to residents who protested the incident.

According to Afghanistan International, local Taliban forces beat and insulted the young man, accusing him of using headphones. Following the incident, local residents and the young man’s relatives went to the Taliban’s district police headquarters in Wama to pursue the matter. However, Taliban forces also mistreated them.

Eyewitnesses say Taliban forces beat the protesters with rifle barrels. Following the confrontation, local residents surrounded the Taliban’s district police headquarters in Wama.

Gunshots can also be heard in a video released from the protest. However, no independent details are available about the source of the gunfire or whether there were any casualties.
