Local sources say that house-to-house searches and the arrest of young men are continuing in Shahr-e Buzurg District of Badakhshan, a week after clashes between local residents and Taliban forces over the holding of a wedding ceremony.
Amu TV reported on Saturday that the clashes began after Taliban forces intervened in a wedding ceremony in Wandian village of Shahr-e Buzurg District. According to eyewitnesses, local residents had obtained permission from the Taliban before holding a wedding celebration with music and festivities. However, when the ceremony began, Taliban forces prevented it from continuing.
According to Amu’s report, one Taliban member was killed and several Taliban fighters and local residents were injured during the clashes. The groom and his father are also among those detained.
Amu reported that 21 people had been arrested. According to local sources, Taliban forces have continued searching residents’ homes following the incident and have arrested several young men, including individuals who were not present at the wedding ceremony.
Eyewitnesses told Amu that some of those detained had been transferred to a prison in Faizabad, while the families of some detainees still have no information about the whereabouts of their relatives.
Meanwhile, Hasht-e Subh Daily reported separately that around 40 people had been arrested in connection with the incident. The figures reported by the media therefore differ, and the exact number of detainees has not been independently verified.
At the time of publication, Taliban authorities had not publicly commented on the continued arrests and house-to-house searches in the area.
