According to the latest Children's Rights Index 2026, Afghanistan has once again ranked last among 194 countries, making it the world's worst country for children for the third consecutive year.
The report, published on Wednesday, June 24, was prepared by the Dutch organization KidsRights in collaboration with Erasmus University Rotterdam.
The index evaluates children's well-being across several key areas, including survival, health care, education, protection, an enabling environment, and the impacts of climate change.
According to the report, Afghanistan scored just 0.214 points, placing it at the bottom of the global rankings and making it the worst-performing country for children in South Asia.
The report emphasizes that children in Afghanistan continue to face serious challenges in accessing education, healthcare, security, and opportunities for growth and development.
