The United States Department of State has announced the approval of a potential sale of military equipment worth approximately $2 billion to Saudi Arabia.
According to a statement from the department, the deal includes the sale of around 20,000 APKWS II laser-guided rockets to Saudi Arabia, valued at approximately $1.96 billion.
The US Department of State said the agreement is aimed at supporting US foreign policy and national security objectives, as well as strengthening the defense capabilities of Saudi Arabia, one of Washington’s key allies in the region.
The equipment is intended particularly to counter drone threats and enhance Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities.
