The Afghanistan Journalists Center has expressed concern over the closure of the office of “Lapis,” a media company affiliated with the Moby Media Group, by Taliban intelligence forces in Kabul, describing the move as part of an ongoing process of restricting and suppressing media outlets in Afghanistan.
According to the center, Taliban intelligence forces raided the Lapis office in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul on Wednesday and halted the company’s activities. A source told the Afghanistan Journalists Center that Taliban intelligence forces also took away some of the company’s equipment, including computers and data storage disks.
According to the source, Taliban intelligence officials said that the Lapis case would be referred to court after further review and investigation.
Meanwhile, the “Hindukush” media outlet, which is affiliated with Taliban intelligence, has accused Lapis of publishing “obscene and immoral” content and promoting media programs with a Western style.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center has called on the Taliban to end restrictions imposed on media outlets, reopen the Lapis office, and allow the company’s employees to continue their media activities without fear of arrest.
