The Taliban administration has halted the broadcasts of “Sadai Eslah” Radio in Kabul and sealed the media outlet’s office.
“Sadai Eslah” Radio confirmed the suspension of its activities in a statement, saying the action was taken after a delegation from the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice visited the media outlet’s office.
According to the radio’s statement, the Taliban Ministry of Justice has concerns regarding the media outlet’s operating license and its name, and has therefore ordered the suspension of its activities.
“Sadai Eslah” Radio said it is following up on the matter with the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture and Ministry of Justice to address the concerns raised and create the conditions for the media outlet to resume its activities.
The media outlet also emphasized that for the past seven years, it has been owned by a private individual and has had no organizational, institutional, political-party, or political affiliation. The radio previously operated under the name “Jamiat Eslah.”
The suspension of “Sadai Eslah” Radio comes as restrictions and the suspension of activities of several local media outlets in Afghanistan have also been reported in recent months.
