Saudi security officials said on Friday that a person was arrested in Mecca for causing fear and panic among pilgrims and disturbing others. The officials also rejected reports circulating on social media about an attack or the arrest of a suicide bomber at the Grand Mosque.

According to a statement from the security forces, the individual was quickly stopped after causing panic, and the case was referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal proceedings. The official statement made no mention of explosives, an explosive vest, or an attempted attack.

The issue emerged after videos circulated on social media claiming that a suicide attacker had entered the Grand Mosque. However, checks showed that the video was old and related to an attempt by a man to set himself on fire in 2017. The 40-year-old man reportedly poured gasoline on his clothes in the courtyard of the Grand Mosque in February 2017, but security forces restrained him before he could carry out the act.

Saudi officials have stressed the importance of obtaining information about such incidents from official sources.
