Eighty-three Afghan and international human rights organizations have called on the European Union, in an open letter, to refrain from any diplomatic engagement with Taliban representatives.

 

The letter states that establishing diplomatic relations with the Taliban could contribute to the normalization and legitimization of the group. The signatories urged the European Union to prioritize human rights, particularly the rights of women and girls, in its engagement with Afghanistan.
