Members of the New Generation Network and the Freedom Dawn Movement held a protest on Wednesday, July 1, condemning what they described as widespread human rights violations and increasing restrictions on women in Afghanistan. The demonstrators called for an end to what they characterized as repressive policies.
Participants chanted slogans including “No to Mullah Rule,” “One Voice, One Demand, One Freedom,” “The Pen is the Light of the Future,” and “Resistance Against Ignorance,” emphasizing that the voices of Afghan women must not be silenced.
According to the organizers, women in Afghanistan continue to face extensive restrictions in many aspects of life. They said such protests provide an opportunity to amplify women’s voices and draw the attention of the international community and public opinion to the situation of women’s rights in the country.
Members of the New Generation Network and the Freedom Dawn Movement also stressed that these gatherings are not held solely for advocacy, but also play an important role in preserving hope, strengthening solidarity among women and human rights supporters, and continuing peaceful civic efforts to achieve women’s fundamental rights.
