In videos and posts published on social media, a number of citizens have complained about repeated increases in the prices of food items, rent, and other living expenses, saying that their incomes are not keeping pace with the rising cost of living.
Meanwhile, a recent Reuters report from Tehran shows that citizens are expressing concern over rising prices as the value of the dollar increases. An economist quoted in the report said that most people receive their incomes in rials, while the prices of goods dependent on foreign currency also rise as the dollar strengthens, reducing people’s ability to afford food, housing, and other basic necessities.
Reports on users’ reactions on social media also indicate that declining purchasing power has become one of the main concerns among the public.
