Hazam al-Asad, a senior Houthi official, responded to Saudi Arabia’s claim in a post on the social media platform X, writing: “The claim that Mecca was targeted is a repeated lie that has been made before and will no longer deceive anyone.”

Yahya Saree, the Houthis’ military spokesperson, also said that the group’s operations do not target “holy sites.” He claimed that Houthi attacks target Saudi oil facilities and military bases, and also accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out airstrikes against Yemen.

Yemen’s Houthis have rejected Saudi Arabia’s claim that the group targeted the city of Mecca with a drone, saying that their military operations do not target holy sites.

The reactions came after Saudi Arabia announced that it had intercepted and destroyed a drone attributed to the Houthis south of Mecca, before it entered the city’s restricted airspace. The Houthis have rejected the accusation.
