A fire at the Islam Qala border customs office in Herat province was brought under control on Wednesday evening, September 30, following efforts by firefighting teams from Afghanistan and Iran.

The Taliban’s police command in Herat confirmed the fire and said that firefighters took action to prevent the blaze from spreading after arriving at the scene. The fire was eventually brought fully under control.

Meanwhile, Hossein Jamshidi, governor of Taybad in Iran, said that four fire trucks, along with search-and-rescue teams, were dispatched to Islam Qala to help contain the fire.

According to Jamshidi, preliminary assessments indicate that the fire started from a fuel tanker. Based on field observations by drivers and Iranian firefighters, around 20 cargo trucks caught fire in the incident.

The Herat police command described the financial losses from the incident as “limited.”
