At least 95 people have been killed and hundreds of others remain missing following sudden and devastating floods in northern Nepal. The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 26, in the Rasuwa area near the Nepal-Tibet border, causing extensive damage to homes, roads, bridges, border facilities, and hydropower projects.
According to the latest information released by Nepalese authorities, 403 tourists and travelers are still unaccounted for or reported missing, including 341 foreign nationals and 62 Nepali citizens. Among the foreign nationals are 133 Indian citizens, 47 U.S. citizens, 34 Australian citizens, 33 British citizens, and 24 Canadian citizens.
The floods moved rapidly along the Bhote Koshi River and surrounding areas, affecting parts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and downstream areas. Homes, markets, bridges, roads, electricity transmission facilities, and hydropower projects have been damaged or completely destroyed.
