A video from the vast Casa de Pedra cave in Brazil shows a waterfall beside colorful rings in the sky, creating the impression that water is falling directly from the heavens.

The footage was captured by Brazilian photographer and adventurer Giba Moraes in the Iporanga region of São Paulo state. The images have attracted considerable attention on social media because of the striking combination of water, light and the cave’s immense landscape.

Despite appearances, the water is not falling from the sky. It flows down through a gap in the rocks above the cave entrance. The filming angle makes the water appear to run alongside the sky, creating a scene resembling a waterfall suspended among the clouds.

The colorful ring around the Sun is an atmospheric optical phenomenon known as a solar halo, which forms when sunlight passes through ice crystals in high-altitude clouds. Another rainbow visible near the falling water may have formed when sunlight interacted with water droplets and mist.

Casa de Pedra Cave is located in Brazil’s Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park.
