Local sources in Badakhshan have told Panah Press that Taliban opponents took control of Yiftal-e Payin District in the province for several hours early Friday morning.

According to the report, the attackers entered the district centre, took control of the district administration building, police headquarters and intelligence office, and raised their flag over the district administration building. Sources say that Taliban forces were disarmed and that the Taliban opponents left the area after several hours.

Videos published from the incident also show the sound of gunfire and the presence of armed men in the area.

A military group known as the “Homeland Soldiers Front” has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Taliban have not yet officially commented on the incident.
