A number of Afghan citizens have expressed concern over the significant increase in fuel prices, saying that the rising costs of oil, liquefied gas, and petrol have worsened economic problems for families and made daily life more difficult for many people.
Residents of Kandahar and several other provinces say the increase in fuel prices has not only affected daily expenses but has also led to higher transportation fares, increased costs of goods transportation, and rising prices of food and other essential items.
They add that at a time when many families are facing unemployment, reduced incomes, and livelihood challenges, the increase in fuel prices has placed additional pressure on people’s lives. Some citizens say that purchasing gas and covering heating and transportation expenses have become more difficult for many households.
According to reports, the price of one kilogram of liquefied gas has increased in some markets from around 58 Afghanis to nearly 75 Afghanis, while the price of one liter of petrol has risen from around 68 Afghanis to about 85 Afghanis.
Some residents are calling on the Taliban authorities and market officials to take immediate steps to control prices, prevent hoarding, and reduce economic pressure on the people.
They warn that the continued rise in fuel prices could further worsen families’ economic difficulties and negatively affect citizens’ living conditions.
