Local sources in Badakhshan say that Juma Khan Fateh, a former deputy governor of Zabul, surrendered to a Taliban special forces unit today.
According to these sources, following several days of Taliban operations in Badakhshan, Fateh laid down his arms and surrendered to the group’s special forces.
It is also reported that armed men affiliated with Juma Khan Fateh had previously surrendered to Taliban forces.
Juma Khan Fateh had been involved in clashes with Taliban forces in Badakhshan in recent months. Reports had also emerged about disagreements between him and the Taliban, as well as an operation to arrest him.
