Local sources in Helmand province say the Taliban removed their nighttime checkpoints in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital, about a week ago. However, the group’s checkpoints remain active in various parts of the city during the day.
According to the sources, Taliban fighters remain at their assigned posts at night and are no longer seen on the city’s roads as they were previously.
The change comes after, according to local sources, motorcycle-borne individuals threw several hand grenades at the Helmand provincial governor’s office building early last week. The building is located near the Taliban’s General Court and Military Court.
Sources also said that about four days ago, motorcycle-borne individuals attacked the Taliban’s Second Security District in Lashkar Gah by throwing hand grenades.
However, no precise information is available about possible casualties resulting from the two incidents.
