Taliban-Affiliated Media: “Weapons and Ammunition Depot” Discovered at Khatam al-Nabieen Seminary in Kabul

Hurriyat Radio, a media outlet close to the Taliban, has reported, citing security sources from the group, that a “weapons and ammunition depot” was discovered at the Khatam al-Nabieen Religious Seminary in Kabul during the evacuation of the center.

According to the outlet, the Commission for the Prevention of Land Usurpation, in cooperation with Taliban security agencies, carried out the evacuation of the center and discovered weapons and ammunition at the site during the operation. The commission is headed by the Taliban’s Minister of Justice.

According to the Taliban, the following items were seized from the site: three rocket launchers, two PK machine guns, 20 Kalashnikov rifles, 22 Kalashnikov magazines, 21 empty magazines, 53 rocket rounds, 2,250 PK rounds, 10 boxes of PK ammunition, and 10 communication devices.

Meanwhile, officials of the Khatam al-Nabieen Religious Seminary told media outlets that the weapons at the center were “legal.” According to them, the weapons and ammunition had remained at the seminary since the previous government and were registered with the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior after the Taliban takeover. Seminary officials emphasized that the weapons had official licenses.

The incident occurred at the same time as the complete evacuation of the Khatam al-Nabieen Religious Seminary, one of the largest Shia educational and religious centers in Kabul. According to local reports, Taliban forces from the Ministry of Justice had surrounded the center two days before the final evacuation and disarmed its guards. Local sources said the action was carried out on the orders of Abdul Hakim Sharaee, the Taliban’s acting Minister of Justice.

Local sources said the Taliban had given the seminary’s students until around 10 a.m. on Monday, September 7, to leave the building, but after noon they forcibly removed them from the premises.

Before the final evacuation, reports had also emerged of more than 2,500 Kabul residents gathering around the seminary. The protesters had resisted the Taliban’s efforts to evacuate the educational center.
