Asylum rights activists are set to hold protests at seven locations across Germany on Saturday, October 24, calling for an end to the deportation of asylum seekers, particularly Afghan nationals.

According to the German Press Agency (dpa), Leipzig/Halle Airport will be the main focus of the protests. Organizers say opposition to charter flights returning Afghan asylum seekers to Afghanistan will be central to the demonstration there.

According to the announced plans, protests will also take place at the airports in Frankfurt, Cologne, Munich, Düsseldorf and Berlin. In Hanover, a protest is planned in the Steintor area.

The protests will be held under the slogan “Nationwide Protest Against Deportation Madness.” They aim to oppose the deportation of people whose asylum applications have been rejected. Protesters are also opposing the detention of migrants before deportation and the expansion of facilities and infrastructure used for these operations.

Luca Müller, spokesperson for the organizing coalition, has criticized the German government’s cooperation with the Taliban to return Afghan asylum seekers. He said the organizers are particularly concerned about deportations being carried out in cooperation with the Taliban and airlines profiting from the process.

The organizers have also criticized the German government’s budget priorities. They say that while cuts to social and healthcare spending are being discussed, the government is allocating substantial public funds to deportations and the expansion of related facilities.

The protests are being planned amid continued concerns over the forced return of Afghan nationals from European countries and cooperation between some governments and the Taliban to carry out these deportations. Such measures have drawn criticism from asylum rights groups.
