Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of the Islamic Unity Party of the People of Afghanistan, has responded to criticism following his and Ahmad Massoud’s attendance at the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei in Tehran, defending the Islamic Republic of Iran’s hosting of the delegation from the Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan.
In a message published on his Facebook page, Mohaqiq said that mistakes made in introducing some delegations and personalities during the ceremony were due to the scale of the event and the large number of guests, and should not be viewed as intentional.
He urged his supporters to refrain from criticizing the event organizers or creating tensions on social media, emphasizing that “we are not guests in Iran; rather, we are sharing in the grief of our Iranian brothers.”
The leader of the Islamic Unity Party of the People of Afghanistan also told his opponents and critics not to speak on his behalf against the organizers, adding that if necessary, he would personally comment on his rights and position.
In another part of his statement, Mohaqiq accused some users and critics of exploiting the issue to attack Iran, Islam, and former jihad leaders, writing: “Bear your pain quietly. Be patient. You will gain nothing from this.”
He also thanked the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran for hosting and welcoming the delegation of the Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, describing his and Ahmad Massoud’s participation in the ceremony as a sign of the close ties between the peoples of Afghanistan and Iran.
