The National Disaster Management Authority of the Taliban administration has announced that its head, Nooruddin Turabi, expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the deserts of Nimroz Province and decided that each victim’s family would receive AFN 20,000 in cash assistance.
According to Taj Mohammad Hemat, Deputy Spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Authority, Nooruddin Turabi’s condolence message regarding the incident has been shared with the media.
The tragedy occurred last week in the deserts of Nimroz, where a group of people became lost while traveling through remote desert routes and faced life-threatening conditions due to extreme heat, lack of water, and harsh environmental circumstances. According to reports, about 19 people lost their lives in the incident.
Experts and international reports say that economic insecurity, poverty, unemployment, declining job opportunities, the humanitarian crisis, and social restrictions are among the factors driving many Afghans to migrate, including through dangerous and irregular routes. Since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, large numbers of Afghans have left the country or attempted to migrate due to a combination of security concerns, economic hardship, and imposed restrictions.
