Khadija Amin, an Afghan journalist and women’s rights activist, received the “Lives for Asylum” award at the 10th edition of the Spanish Commission for Refugees (CEAR) Awards in 2026.
According to CEAR, the award was presented to Amin in recognition of her efforts to defend the rights of refugees and raise awareness about the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan. The award ceremony was held in Madrid, the capital of Spain.
Before leaving Afghanistan, Amin worked as a journalist and news presenter at the country’s national television broadcaster. After the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, she moved to Spain, where she continued her media work and advocacy.
Amin currently heads the “Hope for Freedom” association, an organization that works to support Afghan women and girls and provide them with educational and empowerment opportunities.
Since 2001, the Spanish Commission for Refugees has used its awards to recognize individuals and organizations working to defend the right to asylum and support refugees. More than 50 nominations across different categories were considered for the 10th edition of the awards.
Khadija Amin’s receipt of the award has once again drawn attention to the work of Afghan journalists and women’s rights advocates abroad and their efforts to highlight the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan.
