Zabihullah Amiri, the Taliban's Director of Information and Culture in Badakhshan Province, was killed on Tuesday in an armed attack on the Fayzabad–Baharak road.
Taliban authorities confirmed the attack, stating that one of the attackers was killed at the scene while a second suspect was arrested.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), citing information published by the SITE Intelligence Group, the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) issued a statement on Wednesday claiming responsibility for the attack. In the statement, the group alleged that its members had killed Zabihullah Amiri and one of his bodyguards.
However, ISIS-K's claim of responsibility has not been independently verified by neutral sources, and Taliban officials have not released further details regarding those responsible for the attack.
