The German government on Monday deported at least 32 Afghan nationals to Kabul on a charter flight from Leipzig/Halle Airport.
Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior said that all deportees were men and that several of them had been convicted of serious criminal offenses.
According to the German Press Agency (DPA), the individuals had been accused or convicted of crimes including sexual assault, murder, child abuse, drug trafficking, and extortion.
German authorities stated that the deportees had been collected from several federal states, including North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, Lower Saxony, Baden-Württemberg, and Schleswig-Holstein. Some of the cases were also under the jurisdiction of the Federal Police.
DPA reported that the charter flight was carried out under the direct supervision of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and was part of Germany’s efforts to deport migrants with serious criminal records.
