Taliban security officials in Herat have reported that the deputy head of the group’s 10th Police District was killed in an armed incident in the city of Herat.
Masoud Hosseini, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Herat, said that on Tuesday evening, two armed men entered a barbershop in the city and attempted to rob the people and property inside.
According to Hosseini, the deputy head of the Taliban’s 10th Police District was shot while attempting to confront the attackers. He was taken to a hospital but later died from the severity of his injuries.
The Taliban police spokesperson added that following the incident, the group’s forces pursued the attackers and managed to arrest one of them.
The deputy police district chief’s bodyguard was also killed in the incident.
