Atta Mohammad Noor, leader of the Islamic Jamiat of Afghanistan and a member of the Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, strongly criticized the Taliban during an online meeting marking the fifth anniversary of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. He said that some of the Taliban’s current leaders had previously been captured by opposing forces and later released.

Addressing the Taliban, Noor said: “We are the same people who, whenever we came onto the battlefield, made you run. All of your leaders who are now in power and sitting in government positions spent a period in captivity with us, and we released you based on the code of chivalry and honor that we followed.”

He added that the Taliban have, in his view, now become so arrogant that they have forgotten their past. Noor emphasized that opposition forces in previous periods had captured thousands of people, including some of the Taliban’s current leaders, and released them based on what he described as “chivalry, honor, and Islamic ethics.”
