Amanullah Payman, a former member of Afghanistan’s parliament, said in response to the recent clashes and protests in Badakhshan Province that the movement is entirely spontaneous and was initiated by the local residents. He rejected claims that the protests were directed from outside Afghanistan, stating that the people of Badakhshan themselves started the uprising.
Payman added that if any country, including Pakistan, supports the uprising, such support would be welcomed. He also stated that he is in contact with residents of Badakhshan and several other areas, adding that efforts to expand the movement are ongoing.
