The Afghan Women’s Empowerment Movement issued a statement on Teachers’ Day expressing appreciation for the country’s teachers, particularly women teachers, and emphasizing the need to support them and uphold the right to education for all.
In its statement, the movement described teachers as one of the fundamental pillars of social progress and said that economic problems, a lack of educational facilities, livelihood difficulties, and employment restrictions are among the major challenges facing Afghanistan’s education system.
The Afghan Women’s Empowerment Movement also described the situation of girls’ education as concerning, saying that depriving girls of secondary and higher education harms Afghanistan’s academic future and its skilled workforce.
The movement called on the people of Afghanistan, including parents, young people, students, teachers, religious scholars, and civil society activists, not to remain indifferent to the deprivation of girls from education and to support the right to education through civil and peaceful means.
The statement also called on the international community, the United Nations, and international organizations to prioritize support for teachers and the right to education for Afghan girls and to take practical measures to strengthen the country’s education system.
The Afghan Women’s Empowerment Movement concluded by emphasizing that supporting teachers means supporting Afghanistan’s future and that education should be available to all girls and boys.
