Sher Ahmad Haqqani, the Taliban’s Minister of Information and Culture, described the group’s administration as an “Islamic Caliphate” and said the Taliban’s priority is religion, not the economy.
He made these remarks at a ceremony marking the introduction of a book by Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban’s leader. According to Haqqani, economic issues and people’s livelihoods are of secondary importance. He also emphasized the expansion and promotion of the Taliban leader’s directives.
The Taliban have previously sought to promote their leader’s decrees among the public. The group’s Ministry of Information and Culture had earlier tested around 800 people in Bamyan on Hibatullah’s decrees. Afghanistan International had also reported that the book “Allegiance to the Amir al-Mu’minin” was written by Hibatullah himself and that Taliban officials in the provinces were promoting it.
