Takhar — Local sources say that Muzhda Uzbek, a Turkic Uzbek poet, writer, and teacher, has been detained by Taliban intelligence forces in Khwaja Ghar district of the province.
According to the sources, Muzhda Uzbek and her husband, a former Afghan military member, were detained on charges of writing poetry and having contact with people outside Afghanistan. Her husband was released after one week, but there is no precise information about Muzhda Uzbek’s condition or whereabouts.
According to reports, she has been accused of writing critical poems about Taliban policies and having contact with Rahila Dostum. Local Taliban officials in Takhar have not yet commented on the matter.
Muzhda Uzbek is a mother of five and lives in the Hazarbagh area of Khwaja Ghar district. Her detention has raised concerns about the situation of poets, writers, and cultural figures, as well as restrictions on cultural activities and the expression of critical views in Afghanistan.
