In a message published in Pashto, Sadat repeated the slogan "Freedom, Freedom" and expressed his hope for freedom across Afghanistan, from Kunar and Badakhshan to Helmand. He linked this aspiration to the country's skies, plains, youth, soldiers, and the national flag.
Concluding his message, Sadat congratulated the people of Afghanistan on National Flag Day and wrote: "We will continue to fight with pride and honor for the tricolor national flag to fly once again."
These remarks come as the Taliban, following their return to power in August 2021, replaced the national flag used by the former Islamic Republic of Afghanistan with the white flag of the Islamic Emirate as the official symbol of their administration. Supporters of the former republic continue to regard the tricolor flag as a symbol of Afghanistan's national identity and unity.
