“Republic” Removed from Kabul Hospital’s Name; Taliban Replace It with “Al-Shifa”

Reports from Kabul indicate that the Taliban have changed the name of “Jumhuriat Hospital” in central Kabul to “Al-Shifa Hospital.”

According to official documents, the health facility has for some time been referred to as “Al-Shifa Hospital” in Taliban administrative documents and correspondence, whereas “Jumhuriat Hospital” was previously used in official records.

Reports indicate that the process of renaming the hospital began in 2023. In October of that year, the Taliban announced the start of a project to renovate and equip Jumhuriat Hospital at a cost of approximately four billion Afghanis.

However, the Taliban have so far not provided an explanation or issued a public statement regarding the reason for the name change or the exact date on which it was implemented.
