Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s interior minister, has claimed that 80 percent of the individuals who engage in terrorist activities in the country enter Pakistan from Afghanistan.

According to Pakistani media reports, Naqvi made these remarks on Tuesday, October 13, in Pakistan’s Senate. He said Islamabad’s statements were not targeting any specific ethnic group, but referred to individuals who, according to him, cross the border into Pakistan from Afghanistan and carry out terrorist attacks.

Similarly, Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, spokesperson for Pakistan’s military, made a similar claim in September, saying that nearly 80 percent of suicide bombers in Pakistan are Afghan nationals.

Pakistani officials have repeatedly accused the Taliban government of providing conditions for armed groups to operate against Pakistan from Afghan territory. The Taliban government has rejected these allegations.

However, the figures cited by Pakistani officials have not been independently verified in the sources reviewed and should be treated as official claims by Islamabad.
