The online program “The Struggles of Afghan Women in Different Periods” was held with a focus on the history of Afghan women’s struggles, their achievements, and the challenges they have faced in their pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice.

During the program, Sima Ghafar, a political activist and women’s rights advocate, participated online from Canada as a special guest and spoke about the ups and downs of Afghan women’s struggles during different historical periods.

The main focus of the session was to examine the role of women in Afghanistan’s social and political developments and their efforts to gain access to education, social and political participation, and the defense of their fundamental rights and freedoms. The program also emphasized that the struggles of Afghan women are not a phenomenon limited to a particular period, but have roots in decades of efforts and resistance by women against social and political restrictions.

Sima Ghafar emphasized the importance of preserving women’s voices and documenting their experiences, describing the struggles of Afghan women as an important part of the country’s contemporary history—a history that, she said, cannot be fully told without the accounts of women.

Another part of the program focused on the current situation of women in Afghanistan and the restrictions facing their participation in educational, social, and public spheres. Participants emphasized the need to continue discussions about women’s rights and to bring their voices to the attention of the international community.

The online session was attended by a number of women and men from different countries around the world. Most of the participants were women, including women’s rights activists, human rights advocates, and women protesters. Based on the number of participants during the program, their number was estimated at around 100 to 150, although the exact number of participants is not available, and the published images show only some of them.

The session was held with the aim of creating a space for dialogue, revisiting women’s historical experiences, examining their struggles and demands, and strengthening public attention to the situation of women in Afghanistan.
