Atta Mohammad Noor, former governor of Balkh and a political figure opposed to the Taliban, has called on opponents of the group involved in armed activities not to send young people into battle for the “pleasure of foreigners and the pursuit of fame.”
Mr. Noor wrote on Saturday, September 26, on his X account that guerrilla warfare cannot be pursued through slogans and excitement alone, but requires strategic vision, experience, responsible planning, and coordination among forces.
He emphasized that any struggle for the freedom of Afghanistan should be based on the will of the people and the interests of the country, and that Afghan youth should not become victims of the objectives of others.
His remarks come as several Taliban-opposition groups inside and outside Afghanistan say they are continuing political and armed resistance against the group. Some of these groups have rejected allegations of dependence on foreign countries.
Noor also referred to Afghanistan’s experience of several decades of war and stressed the need for responsible decision-making and preventing young people from becoming victims.
