Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Afghanistan’s former foreign minister, condemned Pakistan’s airstrikes on Kunar and Helmand and called on the Taliban to create conditions for national solidarity through national dialogue.
In a message published on Friday, October 2, he referred to the killing of civilians and emphasized the protection of the public and the reduction of tensions. According to Atmar, defending the country’s territorial integrity is not possible without public support and respect for the fundamental rights of citizens. He also called on the United Nations Security Council to intervene to prevent further escalation of tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.
UNAMA has said that at least 10 civilians were killed and nine others injured in the attacks, with children making up most of the victims. Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Afghanistan, has also called for Pakistan to be held accountable.
Pakistan says it targeted hideouts of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), claiming that 22 members of the groups were killed. Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, meanwhile, said civilian homes were bombed. The figures and claims made by both sides have not been independently verified.
